90/10

90/10 is a vessel for story-telling. Ever since I was a kid I always loved stories, we would all sit together at family gatherings while my grandfather held court, and I would see in my mind the people that he had met and the places he had been. 

I agonized over what to call this "thing" that I wanted to do. I wanted to build a big bucket that I could put a lot of different things in, where it could be okay if different kinds of things were next to each other. 

Years ago a colleague and friend (also named Dan) talked about the "90/10" phenomenon wherein a person gets 90% of the way finished with a task and has a hard time doing that last 10%. I knew I was doing that very thing and so used the expression to push myself across the finish line for creative work. Thanks, Dan.
